Un equipo de socorristas se reúne con el bebé "entregado a salvo" que dieron a luz en su ambulancia.

Un paramédico y una paramédica de California vivieron el año pasado dos acontecimientos edificantes que pocos equipos pueden presenciar. El 5 de marzo de 2021, la paramédico Marian Anson y la paramédico Michelle Guidotti fueron invitadas VIP a una fiesta de adopción de un bebé que trajeron al mundo en la parte trasera de su ambulancia el año pasado.

"Mientras viajaba por la carretera, tuve que dar a luz a mi primer bebé", dijo Anson, asistida por Guidotti. "Sin duda, fue un poco angustioso, pero uno de los días más emocionantes que he vivido. Fue increíble. Oírle llorar después fue precioso".

Al llegar a urgencias, el bebé fue entregado a través del Programa de Entrega Segura de California, una ley aprobada en 2001 que permite a los padres o tutores llevar a un recién nacido a un hospital, estación de bomberos u otro lugar seguro para su adopción, de forma confidencial y gratuita. Al día siguiente, una familia adoptiva se lo llevó a casa.

La familia adoptante se puso en contacto con Hall Ambulance para invitar a la tripulación a la fiesta de adopción de Oliver en su casa.

"Marian y Michelle fueron sus primeros amigos en el mundo y saber que fue cuidado por ellos realmente acorta la distancia entre su vida antes de conocernos, por muy corta que sea, y su vida con nosotros", dijo la madre adoptiva de Oliver.

En la celebración temática hubo arte en el patio, un fotomatón y Siren, el perro de rescate, que repartió versiones de la mascota de Hall Ambulance del tamaño de un abrazo. Oliver recibió una mesa de actividades y una versión de peluche hecha a mano de la ambulancia en la que viajó, con el número de la unidad.

"Fue un gran honor no sólo poder presenciar el nacimiento de Oliver de primera mano, sino también su ceremonia de adopción", dijo Guidotti. "Sostener a Oliver y ver su cara sonriente será siempre un momento que apreciaré profundamente. Toda llamada tiene el potencial de tener un mal final, pero estoy muy agradecida de que la nueva historia de Oliver sea sólo el principio."

"Marian y Michelle forman parte de la historia de Oliver, y qué manera tan emocionante de empezar un viaje", dijo su madre. "Definitivamente tendremos una gran historia que contarle cuando sea mayor".

EMS crew reunites with ‘safe surrender’ baby they delivered in their ambulance.

An EMT and a paramedic in California got to experience two uplifting events within the last year that few crews get to witness. On March 5, 2021, paramedic Marian Anson and EMT Michelle Guidotti were VIP guests to an adoption party for a baby boy they delivered in the back of their ambulance last year.

“While traveling down the road, I got to deliver my first baby,” said Anson, assisted by Guidotti. “It was definitely a little nerve-wracking, but one of the most exciting days I’ve had. It was amazing! Getting to hear him cry after was beautiful.”

On arrival at the ER, the baby was given up through California’s Safe Surrender Program, a law passed in 2001 that allows a parent or custodian to take a newborn to a hospital, fire station or other safe place for adoption, confidential and free of charge. The next day, he was taken home by a foster family.

The adopting family contacted Hall Ambulance to invite the crew to Oliver’s adoption party at their home.

“Marian and Michelle were his first friends in the world and knowing that he was cared for by them really bridges that gap from his life before meeting us, as short as that may be, to his life with us,” said Oliver’s adopted mother.

A themed celebration featured yard art, photo booth, and Siren the Rescue Dog passing out cuddle-sized versions of the Hall Ambulance mascot. Oliver received an activity table and handmade plush-toy version of the ambulance he rode in, complete with the unit number.

“It was such an honor not only to be able to witness Oliver’s birth first-hand but also to witness his adoption ceremony,” Guidotti said. “Holding Oliver and seeing his smiling face will always be a moment in time that I will deeply cherish. Every call has the potential to have a bad ending, but I am so grateful Oliver’s new story is just the beginning.”

“Marian and Michelle are a part of Oliver’s history, and what an exciting way to start a journey,” said his mother. “We will definitely have a great story to tell him when he is older.”
